The Kishwaukee College Kougar softball team took on Madison College in the first round of the NJCAA Region IV Quarterfinals in a best of three series and dropped the series two games to one.
The first game started out with a bang for the Kougars as they came away with a 4-1 victory. Jasmine Kerley pitched a complete game, four-hitter for her eighteenth win of the season, striking out eight batters. Christina Williams, Jessica Townsend and Kelsie Thurman all had two hits for Kishwaukee, with Williams driving in two runs.
Game 2 started with Kishwaukee in a hole, down 5-1 going into the bottom of the 4th inning, but the Kougars would score two runs in each of the next two frames to knot the score at 5-5. The rally wasn't quite enough as Madison scored in the top of the 7th inning to win 6-5.
Abigail Turner took the loss on the mound, giving up two runs in four innings pitched. At the plate, Christina Williams and Kelsie Thurman each had two hits with Thurman and Peyton Marten driving in two runs apiece. Thurman also hit a double and a triple in the loss.
The deciding game had to go to extra innings before the final outcome was decided, with a 12-11, 10 inning victory for Madison College. Jasmine Kerley started her second game of the day, but gave up nine runs in 5 and a 1/3 innings. Abigail Turner came in relief and took the loss, giving up 1 earned run in 3 and 2/3 innings, but walking four.
Each team had difficulties in the field as Kishwaukee College had five errors to Madison College's seven.
Christina Williams had three hits including a double, while Bailey Johnson, Jessica Townsend, Courtney Olufs, and Sabrina Killeen all had two hits. Johnson drove in three runs and Townsend two.
Kishwaukee College, the NJCAA Region IV #3 seed ends their season with a 28-22 record.
