The Kougar men's basketball team turned in a thriller as they survived a last second shot by the Waubonsee Chiefs to hold on to an 83-81 victory. With the Kougars up by 3 points and 35.8 seconds left, Waubonsee stole the ball and scored to go down by 1 point. On the ensuing possession, the Chiefs fouled Austin Patterson (Morris HS). Patterson calmly sank both free throws to stretch the Kougar lead back to 3 points. The Chiefs would respond by hitting a big 3-pt shot to tie the game at 81 with just 4.8 seconds left. Waubonsee committed a crucial foul as the ball was inbounded against Armon Williams (Oak Forest HS) and he sank both free throws to put the Kougar lead at 2 points. After a Waubonsee time out, the Chiefs would get off a desperation 3-pt attempt that came up empty.
Patterson led the Kougars with a season high 29 points on 11-16 shooting from the floor, including going 4-6 from 3-pt land. Region IV Player of the Week, Malcolm Reed (Marquette Catholic HS) followed Patterson with a double/double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, along with Bryson Butler (Lincoln park HS) contributing 14 points and 8 assists.
