March 31, 2026 - The Kishwaukee Softball team travelled to Freeport Tuesdsay to take on Highland CC in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader. Kish earned a split in a competitive doubleheader with a 7-5 win in game one before falling 3-1 in game two. Kishwaukee pulled ahead in the top of the third inning of the first game when Kaelyn Williams delivered a clutch double, driving in two runs to give the Kougars a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish. Williams was dominant in the circle, pitching a complete game while allowing eight hits and five runs (four earned). She struck out an impressive 12 batters and walked three to earn the win. Offensively, the Kougars recorded 11 hits, led by leadoff hitter Sami Simms, who went 3-for-4 at the plate. Williams, Allison Abell, and Simms each drove in two runs. Georgia Gallardo and Avery Boehne added multiple hits, while Boehne contributed on the base paths with two stolen bases.
Game two featured a strong pitching performance on both sides, but Highland edged Kishwaukee 3-1. The Kougars struck first in the third inning when Simms singled to bring home the game's first run. However, Highland responded and held Kishwaukee to just one run for the remainder of the game. Avery Boehne went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings while striking out four and not issuing a walk. Tyra Smith, Gallardo, and Simms each recorded a hit, with Simms accounting for the team's lone RBI.
Kishwaukee returns home on Wednesday to take on Blackhawk College in another Arrowhead Confernece DH tilt (weather permitting).
