Kougars secure second place finsih in Arrowhead Conference with sweep at Highland

April 22, 2025 - The Kishwaukee College softball team picked up wins 30 and 31 on the season with a two game sweep over Highland CC Tuesday in Freeport.  In game one,

Alyssa Wilkerson was dominant in the circle, as the starting pitcher rang up 10 strikeouts in Kishwaukee's 5-2 victory over HCC. Wilkerson surrendered nine hits and two runs over seven innings while walking three.  The Kougars were the first to get on the board in the third when Bella Koertner doubled, scoring one run.  Kaylee Johnson led the Kougs with two runs batted in and Haley Von Schnase had two hits in three at bats.

Kish was also victorious in game two winning 6-2.  Kishwaukee opened the scoring in the first after Bella Koertner scored after tagging up.  The Kougs added another run in the third after Kyra Johnson singled to center field. Highland tied the game in the bottom of the fifth but the Kougars jumped back into the lead in the top of the sixth inning after Ana-Kate Phillips doubled to center field, and then Phillips scored after tagging up, each scoring one run on those plays.  Johnson earned the win for Kish staying sharp the  whole game allowed just four hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. Kailey Goetz led Kish with two runs batted in while going 2-for-4 on the day. Johnson, Koertner, Phillips, and Goetz each collected two hits plus Koertner stole three bases.

Kishwaukee now 31-19 overall, secured a second place finish in the Arrowhead Conference finishing 14-6 in conference.  That represents the highest finish in the AAC in over a decade. The Kougars will next host Waubonsee in a doubleheader Wednesday.
